      Hi Luci,

I think with any job there is a bit of give and take. Obviously, I would love to clone myself and do multple interesting jobs, but I am happy to say I have not felt I have ‘given up’ on anything by choosing to become a researcher. I guess I worked a lot of weekends during my PhD, but now I am a post-doc I force myself to not work on weekends. It is an exciting job, with a lot of independence, so if that suits your personality and you are interested in how things work at a very basic level, you won’t feel like you’ve given up anything to be a scientist!

I don’t think you give up much except time and you do that with all jobs. The advantage of being a scientist for me is that most of the job is fun which not everyone can say about work.
