      No.

      It is a complex system. More like an ecosystem. It has co-evolved to work together and it really is rather marvellous.

      No, read origin of species by Charles Darwin. He states his theory of evolution beautifully and convincingly, and now it is not just a theory we know competitive selection and convergent evolution are not just principles to think about we have real examples in biology and ecology.

      I would also if you are really interested in this topic recommend reading about the Burgess Shale and the diversity explosion and probable selection process that followed in that fossil record.
