      Hi Charlio27,

Great question and observation. Bacteria that our body can clear away from infection or ‘self-limiting’ are bugs like salmonella or campylobacter that we can produce a robust immune response to, feel ill, but get better after a few days. Other bugs, like tuberculosis, are less invasive and more stealthy. Their main aim is to hide out away from the immune system by living within our own cells and replicating very slowly. Different sorts of bacteria have a different ‘tool box’ of skills to accomplish their tasks. It really depends on the bacteria and site of infection and also health status of the animal or plant or person infected.
      Cheers!
