      Hi Lottie,

Ebola is a type of virus, so it has to live off a host to survive. Ebola is a type of hemorrhagic fever (of which group some of the most dangerous types of virus ever found are a part of). It effects the body by making us extremely ill, whilst also making all bodily fluids potentially infectious. Here is a link to learn from the World Health Organisation about the basic facts about Ebola. For instance, it is called Ebola because of one of the first abstracts found near the Ebola river in the DRC.

      Cheers!
