Interesting question, and many options and ideas come to my mind. I’m going to hedge my bets on eradication of polio and other childhood diseases as an advancement that would be crucially important in the next 20 years. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are pouring millions of dollars into achieving ‘eradication’ of certain diseases. Hopefully with enough money and time and effort this will be a success of the next 20 years.
Others will have different opinions to share I am sure! What do you think?
I think one of biggest breakthroughs is going to be the rise of using our individual total DNA sequence (all 3.2 billion letters of G,A,T and Cs) to determine what is the best drug to treat us for any given problem. And sequencing the DNA of a persons individual cancer to see how best to treat it.
Hello Blanca!
I am going to put my bet on diseases that are transmitted by mosquitos such as malaria or dengue. Malaria specially still kills a lot of people in the undeveloped world and it is of great importance that these diseases are eliminated. Great advances are being done in the development of a vaccine. What do you think?
Cheers! 🙂
