      During inflammation cells and fluid go to the site of inflammation. It is possible then for the site to become heavily infected by bacteria that are already there or a new infection if say the skin becomes broken. The bacteria can resist the immune cells and start to destroy them and that results in dead cells that form a decaying soup of cells and protein we call pus.
