• Question: What is the cell barrier?

      Hi George,

      I’ll try to answer your question but Steph/Noel/Laura/Daniel may have a better way of explaining.

      Basically the cells called ‘endothelium cells’ form a cell barrier between tissues and our blood. I’m not sure if this is the sort of barrier you mean though. If our bodies are invaded by pathogens or inflammation this cell barrier can become weakened and or compromised. Some types of bacteria can evade break through and causes disease in the blood stream – referred to as septicemia. Other bacteria can cross the blood/brain barrier and cause meningitis or encephalitis. So, our cell barrier in our body is key to staying healthy it seems!
