Most of my lab work is what is referred to as cell biology. So I work with cells and the molecules that make them ie. what proteins and genes are being switched on and off in the cell and how that relates to how the cell behaves. So for example in after an organ is transplanted what parts of the immune system are switched on and on off. If we can understand that then we can design treatments that help the parts of the immune system that help the transplanted organ survive and switch of the parts of the immune system that damage it. So my lab work includes growing cells and then extracting parts of the cells such as the protein to understand how the cells are working.
